I had a fun afternoon with Lakyn and Mark out on Padre Island back in February. We couldn’t have asked for better weather when shooting their engagement photos. They initially wanted to shoot around Bob Hall Pier, but the plethora of people taking advantage of the first really great beach day caused us to walk a little farther down the beach where we got some “alone time” to shoot. Lakyn was a natural infront of the camera, and Mark wasn’t too bad himself. We got some great shots (of course I’m a little biased) but I’ll let you be the judge.

Jennifer and Aaron were wanting to shoot their engagements in two locations – on on the beaches of Padre Island and the other a little more urban in downtown Corpus Christi. So we started with their first session (and their two cute dogs) out at Bob Hall Pier on Padre Island. We shot under the pier, along the beach and then decided to bring the dogs out up in the dunes. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. When it came for our session downtown, the weather wasn’t exactly the best, so we went to a few locations that minimized the effect an overcast sky has on images. They styled their own clothing and did an excellent job choosing outfits that were appropriate (and perfect) for each session. I loved the results and even have a 16×20 print in my office awaiting for its location on my wall.

Jaime & Michael’s wedding was held at Corpus Christi’s Art Center, downtown on Shoreline. It was the first wedding that I have photographed where the park alongside the Art Center was utilized for the ceremony. It is such a beautiful little park with so much potential, and Jaime and Michael capitalized on it. The Australian Pines, green grass, and small hills allowed for a somewhat private wedding ceremony. After the ceremony, they had their reception in the Art Center’s courtyard with beautiful decorating by Razzle Dazzle. They had a new (to me) concept in place for their guest favors – rather than providing each guest a candle, or candy, or souvenir, Jaime & Michael provided a token with each guest’s place setting, valued at $1 – then guests had a choice among three different local non-profit groups as to where their $1 went. 0 A mutual friend introduced me to Kim and Kris who were planning their wedding at a friend’s farm outside of Portland, Texas. It was the first time I had been out to this road along Nueces Bay and loved the space and the views. Kim and Kris had a very simple, but effective plan for their wedding ceremony and reception. They utilized rocks that Kim’s mother had picked up as place cards (and they also worked to hold the tablecloths down in the winds we had.) I also loved their wedding cake – if I’m not mistaken, the maid-of-honor made the topper herself. This was a good old-fashioned DIY wedding, from the decorations to the food, they essentially made their own wedding as beautiful as it could be.

Kayla and Will were looking to have their engagement session done on Padre Island near Bob Hall Pier – so we decided to meet up for their engagement session on the beach one late afternoon to give us about 45 minutes of shooting time before the sun set. The two were very eager for their session and excited once we started shooting. They really didn’t need much guidance and were lots of fun to work with. The weather could not have been better and we had beautiful blue skies with white clouds – perfect beach engagement weather. /brCouple sitting in the dunes waiting for the sun to set during a beach engagement session on Padre Island

Brandy & Jake contacted me about photographing their engagement photos while they are living down here in Corpus Christi. Both of them are performers with a very goofy side. They were looking for photos that showed how much fun they love to be. We met before their session, and planned to do part of the session around Cole Park, another part in the Watergardens and the last little bit in the streets of downtown Corpus Christi. I loved working with the two of them on their engagement session and only wish I could photograph their wedding as well!

K and B were married in late August at the Ranch at San Patricio, a large beautiful venue that can accommodate weddings of all sizes. They have a little white chapel with rustic pews for guests to sit in during the ceremony as well as a large ‘dance hall’ that is perfect for entertaining large crowds. There are numerous photo opportunities throughout the ranch, and those couples that book their wedding there have the advantage of being able to have engagements and bridals photographed there as well. From a photographer’s standpoint, this venue is one that excites you to find out the wedding will be there. I enjoyed every aspect of K & B’s wedding and spent most of the day there with them – from K’s hair and makeup through the end of the dancing. B’s mom did a fantastic job with the flower arrangements throughout the ranch. The cupcake stand is one of my favorite things – I’ve only seen one similar before (at Sarah & Matt’s wedding). B apparently constructed it for the wedding out of mesquite wood.

On August 13, I had the pleasure of photographing Janice & Tim’s wedding day events here in Corpus Christi. I started off the wedding day accompanying Janice and her bridesmaids in their Omni Bayfront suite overlooking Corpus Christi Bay. Then it was off to their ceremony in the magnificent Corpus Christi Cathedral with a reception that followed at the Ortiz Center overlooking the Port of Corpus Christi. The Omni Bayfront provides such beautiful rooms to photograph in, and the suites overlook the bay, which ensures that beautiful, bright light spill in the floor to ceiling windows. I took this time to get some shots of Janice’s accessories, such as her beautiful dress, shoes and both of their rings. I also got plenty of shots of the girls in action (the bridesmaids, stylists and makeup artist.) I had my sister come along to shoot with me so that I could leave her with the ladies while I went with Tim and the guys to Lawrence Street to get a few shots infront of the locally famous “No Parking” painted across from Aria. We then hustled over to the cathedral and eagerly awaited the beginning of their ceremony. The Corpus Christi Cathedral […]

Renna and Clay are getting married in September, so it was time to get their engagement session done. She was hoping to photograph at another location, but it wasn’t available so they looked around and talked to the folks at the River Hills Country Club about shooting on the golf course one evening. It was my first engagement session held on a golf course, and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Aside from dodging wayward drives and trying to be as quiet as we could, the session was lots of fun – mainly because Renna and Clay are lots of fun themselves. We shot in almost every location on the course we could (with the exception of the sand traps). The abundance of a variety of trees made it easy to get a variety of shots. We really didn’t have a plan once we headed out on carts; we just were looking for an area that was “right” to shoot. We did a few obligatory jumping shots then came the great finalé – running through the course’s sprinklers before calling it quits.

Yesterday I met up with K & B out at the Ranch at San Patricio where they will be holding their wedding and reception. I have heard many great things about the venue, but had not visited (or shot a wedding there) yet. I looked forward to the drive out there and was definitely excited about shooting in a new location. When I arrived out there, I beat them by a few minutes, and Joey from the ranch drove up and introduced himself and let me know I was more than welcome to look around the property to get some ideas and locations in mind before K & B showed up. I walked around and just checked things out – there is a fabulous little white chapel in a grove of live oaks with a dozen or so church pews arranged around a center aisle. The walkway comes down from the main hall which is beautiful inside and leaves plenty of room for decorating it in your own style. Adjacent to the hall are some picnic tables under an awning to further give guests a place to sit. I could see a little dock off near one of the several […]

Nadine & Bradley booked me to photograph their wedding later this year – and as part of that, an engagement session was included. Nadine called me to confirm the day and we began discussing a time to shoot. She had mentioned wanting a sunrise session, which I said ‘sure’ to. We met at 6am down on the Peoples Street T-Head here in Corpus Christi and put together an amazing session. We proceeded to ‘warm up’ and took a few shots to help them loosen up in front of the camera (and for me to wake up). The pre-dawn light is interesting because it is much greener than post-dusk light and just has a different feel. I decided that this light would go well with a preset I made a few weeks back that I named “Dream of the Beach”. As we shot on the t-head, I found a piece of orange chalk left over from children the day before and decided it could come in handy. We made our way up to Shoreline and I thought that the end of the breakwater that juts out of the seawall would be a great spot as the sun broke free of the […]

Tiffany and I met through a business networking group earlier this year. She was planning her wedding and still needed a photographer for her event – and I happened to be available for her date. It had been years since I was last at the Rockport Country Club back when I delivered stone for a living (no joke) and I looked forward to all that the beautiful course would bring to the table. I arrived a little early so that I could take a look around and evaluate what equipment I needed to bring inside. When I got there, Razzle Dazzle was already busy decorating. Tiffany & Billy went with (what else) Tiffany Blue as her main color which looked fantastic throughout the country club. They had also put together a small candy bar and had a cupcake-cake for anyone who didn’t want their traditional wedding cake. The gorgeous five tier cake was made by Simply Elegant by Raymond. The ceremony was held right outside the club house under the coastal Live Oaks overlooking the golf course. A simple ceremony kept the guests from getting too warm and ensured that we had plenty of light for group formals outside on […]

I’m still in catch-up mode – but this engagement session isn’t that old. Bekah and I took a trip up to College Station and met up with Kaitlin & Justin, now both Texas A&M graduates to shoot their engagements. I decided this would be fitting to blog about since tomorrow I’ll be photographing Kaitlin’s bridals in Kingsville and will be photographing their wedding next weekend. This was my first trip to College Station, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I asked a good friend of mine who graduated from A&M what one place we shouldn’t leave town without visiting. Her reply was “Layne’s” – probably the best chicken fingers I’ve ever had. Bekah and I drove around town for about an hour or so before we met up with Kaitlin & Justin at the Bush Library. Behind the library is a beautiful pond and park area with a walking trail around it. One of my favorite shots was taken on a raised grassy area with a lone tree behind them. We moved from there to the Administration Building, which has some beautiful, amazing columns. On the ceiling of the “porch” was some beautiful tile work that I wanted to […]

Ashlee was referred to me by one of my previous brides, Christie. Ashlee had already lined up a photographer for her wedding day but wanted me to photograph her bridals. We met at Starbucks one afternoon (since I was still renovating my office space) and talked about her expectations and ideas about the session. Ashlee showed me a few examples she had seen online but mainly wanted to have a setting a little more rustic.

Now that Ashley & Ken’s wedding was over the weekend, I can publish her beautiful bridals we took on a blustery January Saturday. It wasn’t the best day to have a bridal session, but Ashley and her entourage were troopers. We did a few behind the old Lichtenstein’s on Mesquite street, as well as the park next to the Art Center and a few in the old Hoover Hotel. Against her better judgment, my lovely wife assisted me on this windy, frigid day. I loved the props Ashley brought along which helped complete the vintage feel she wanted in a few of her photos. I always like to suggest the bride bring a friend or two along on her bridal day because aside from needing help walking around and keeping the dress clean and out of harm’s way, the bride can always count on her friends to make her smile or laugh when needed. Props (aside from your veil, jewelry and bouquet) aren’t a necessity, but can help your bridal photos appear more complete. Of course, the result depends on what your final vision is and where we shoot.

Wedding photography in Corpus Christi is always taking me to new venues. Megan contacted me a few months back about shooting her wonderful wedding, including ceremony at First Presbyterian Church and reception at Moravian Hall on New Year’s Day. I had shot once before at Moravian Hall, but never had experienced the beauty of First Presbyterian’s sanctuary. Megan wanted to ensure that everything would be covered since the men and ladies would be getting ready in separate areas, so I enlisted the help of Hillary Kramer to assist and second shoot. We both had a good time shooting, and the bride, groom and guests had a great time during the Grand March.

Last night I had one of the most intimate beach weddings out in Port Aransas, right at sunset. Though it was a little last minute (Lyndie got in touch with me about three weeks ago) I’m glad I took her up on her request of me to shoot her wedding. I don’t have time right now to post a full teaser, but I decided I’d throw up four shots before I get on the road. Thank you so much Lyndie for getting in touch with me – I had a great time. Congratulations! Update – I was able to add a few more shots from this gorgeous Port Aransas beach wedding.

Hillary had contacted me about photographing engagement portraits of her and Shawn around the area – so we brainstormed via email and decided to start down near Cole Park. Of course these are my favorites out of the set which we shot in downtown Corpus Christi. There are three more parts (one at Heritage Park, then a local playground and another at Coffee Waves to the set that I may save for a rainy day (or slow news week). Hillary had seen several other sessions involving balloons (and I always love including props in sessions) so I have to admit that this is the reason these are my favorites out of our engagement session. They stepped out of their car with the huge bundle of red balloons and proceeded to walk around Peoples Street and La Retama Park downtown. The two of them were naturally wonderful infront of the camera. If you’re lucky, you may even get a chance to have Hillary second shoot your wedding alongside me. Here’s another wedding that is long overdue for appearing here. In fact, Christie & Daryl just celebrated their first anniversary over the weekend – so a big congratulations to the two of them. Christie and I knew each other from high school, and when she first approached me about photographing her wedding, I was a little nervous because I knew that her mom had worked with a few local photographers and is quite capable when it comes to being behind the lens. I knew everything was going to be alright when we did Christie’s bridals (soon to be blogged as well) at Mansion Royal (her wedding venue) as well as off of Holly Road in a field of yellow wildflowers. Both Christie and Daryl are fun loving individuals and surround themselves with fun friends – making for great shots during the reception. They had their ceremony at St. Johns Methodist Church with reception following at Mansion Royal. This was the first full wedding that I shot alongside my wife, Rebekah and we both had a great time. Bekah was a little nervous when I left her with Christie and her bridesmaids so that I could go find Daryl and the […]
